The sequence above is from Vertov/Svilovas’s Three Songs about Lenin (1934), which today is less known than Man with movie camera. The film was produced ten years afters Lenin’s death, when socialist realism fostered both by Lenin and Stalin and Bolshewik party members supersedes the avantgarde movement. It is also notable that Vertov/Svilovas’s insistence in Lenin as a subject was understood as criticism in Stalin by some people at that time. Without spoken commentary the sequence above tell the following 1) A man stands on a watch tower, looking over the country, an airplane over him 2) a female tractor driver plows the soil 3) Title: My Land 4) close-up of the tractor driver 5) the same women trains on a weapon 6) Red Army marches on the Red Square in Moscow.
