Gerda Taro, born in Stuttgart (1910)  and since 1929 living with her family in Leipzig, where she was active for the German Communist Party Youth Organisation (KJVD), went into exile to Paris in late 1933. Together with Robert Capa she moved to Barcelona in August 1936 to support and document the Republican fight against the Franco-fascists. She died through an accident with a Republican tank during an attac by the Legion Condor in July 1937. Through her close cooperation with Capa, later on many of her photos were attributed to Capa and just recently her authorship got larger recognition through museum exhibtions.
