From 1922 until 1933 Otto Neurath in cooperation with the graphic artist Gerd Arntz developed a statistics icon language, which he called ISO-Type. Above are some examples from the 1936 published book International Picture Language. Earlier in 1916/17 he worked for the Austrian Military economy administration and during the socialist Bavarian Republic 1918/19 he was minister for economy. In 1934 he fled from Austria to the Netherlands, later to England.
